Visiting Machu Picchu with the women of Huilloc for an Intrepid Travel video.

Only a small fraction of people living in the Peruvian Highlands have ever seen Machu Picchu. This video documented a social outreach project for Intrepid Travel in which sixteen local women with Inca heritage were invited to visit the world wonder their ancestors had built.

The video was shot over two days. The first was at home with the women of Huilloc Alto as part of an indigenous tourism experience with the Awamaki Foundation, and the second joined these women on the train journey to Machu Picchu. Filming at Peru’s world wonder was a special experience, as was sharing it with these women who had waited years for the experience.

Interviewing local women about their experience and expectations, the service include Spanish Language translation, captioniong and video editing. The result was a three minute feature video and a shorter 90 second vertical reel for social media.

The footage was bought by Intrepid Travel as a showcase of their commitment to responsible travel and has appeared at speaking convensions.

The videos were also published on social media and online by the publication Travel via The New Zealand Herald.
